Summary of Each Program


MATH MENTORS

Available for grades 5th-8th | Monday- Thursday | 3:30pm - 5:30PM | FREE! | Location-HLMS LOL room (next to gym)


This program was designed to not only help students with their math homework but also help with math fluency, strengthening knowledge in math facts and other concepts students need to be successful. We are excited to implement Singapore Math aligning with their current common core curriculum, but introducing real life math concepts, group challenges and fun approach to encourage problem solving skills. This program consists of one on one, group tutoring, homework help, additional resources for enrichment, encouragement, academically excelling BHS students as mentors, enriching math games to make learning fun. The Educational Coordinator will be communicating between parents, students and teachers to ensure that students receive the help they need to have a successful year.

Program Details:

  • Program will provide a small after school snack.
  • Parents are welcome to join at any time.


cOOKING CLUB

Available for grades 5th-8th | Tuesday | 3:30pm - 5:30PM | $20 per semester | Location-BHS Culinary Arts Room


Provides members with kitchen etiquette, healthy eating habits, safety and hands on preparation of meals. Students work on meal planning and creating a budget. This Club also hosts and prepares family dinners for members. Every week students are preparing recipes in hopes of sharing at home with their families. Complete registration forms are required, they must be filled out completely and dropped off at HLMS front office or BCYC during office hours Monday-Thursday 1pm-3pm. Space is limited, students may register anytime, but may be put on a wait list. Class size is limited to 8 participants.

Program Details:

  • There will be no club meeting on school closure days.
  • Student will be preparing healthy snacks, entrees and desserts.
  • The Club will be responsible for planning a community or family engagement event.


media & news club

Available for grades 5th-8th | Monday & Wednesday | 3:30pm - 5:30PM | FREE! | Location-HLMS LOL room (next to gym)


This club is always accepting new members. They are responsible for writing and producing The Panther Post, internet blogging and capturing student life through photojournalism. We are looking for new members who are interested in writing about HLMS, community events, school sports and student life. We have cameras available to students interested in photography. They can be checked out weekly to capture school and community events. Complete registration forms must be filled out completely and dropped off at HLMS front office or BCYC during office hours Monday-Thursday 1pm-3pm. Both program registration forms and bus passes are available at the HLMS front desk.

**HLMS students do not have to be club members to submit short stories, school/community news or pictures. Students can email submissions to charissa@bandonyouth.org.

  • Snack is provided.
  • Our goal is to instill a goal mindset, student leadership, accountability, professionalism and time management. Students joining the club will be expected to complete their personal selected tasks by our set deadlines for print.
  • Our Google Team Drive can be accessed at any time. Giving the students the opportunity to access out of club times. Parents are welcomed to join the Google Team Drive.


cULTURE CLUB

Available for grades 6th-8th | Thursday | 3:30pm - 5:30PM | $20 per semester

Our Culture Club is a youth lead club that inspires youth to create an expression of a story about the place in which we live, told through the arts. Performance and various mediums will tell a specific story developed by students. Information and inspiration will be derived through history research, observations of the natural world and through old stories. Club members will have the opportunity to collaborate with local artists on community projects.

Program Details:

  • There will be no club meeting on school closure days.
  • Snack is provided.
  • Club Meeting will begin with native stories to help set a good tone.

*Various Mediums including: Acrylic, Oil, Watercolor paints, Pencil, Charcoal, Pastels, Bead-working, Leather-working and Clay.
